I think it's strange, but I swear the V8 x-member looks longer than the I6 one. But it dropped right into place on the new car, so I guess it's the same length?

Strengthening

I've towed the car many, many (MANY) times over the years and due to that, the crossmember has been... well, abused. I wanted to strengthen the area where the tow straps are used. The stock sheet metal has been deformed and even "ripped" on one side.

I banged the metal back into place and straightened it as much as I could.

Here's the metal I used, 1/4" thick steel bar.

My original plan was to just drill the hole then cut the bar in half, copying the setup of the original tow points. But I found that the tow hooks fit in the hole, so I figured it would be just as good to make two plates.

Testing the new tow point.
I can either have it fit in the hole, or just hook it on the new plates.
